La Unió hosts the presentation of the use of PROMs and PREMs for patient monitoring with predictive analytics
La Unió (Association of Health and Social Entities) and Costaisa have organized a technical session to present the Naveta project for "Improving care and outcomes in patient monitoring through the use of PROM and PREM questionnaires" by Dr. Gabriel Mercadal, Deputy Pharmacist at the Hospital General Mateu Orfila and President of FARUPEIB, who presented the project of which he is one of the promoters, and Salvador Herrera, Dr. in Neuroscience and Clinical Psychology, CIBERESP-IMIM.
"It is a clear solution for value-based medicine that is much needed to complement diagnostic capacity and carry out closer and more effective patient monitoring," explained Mercadal, "and it provides key information to professionals to facilitate decision-making." Naveta offers a simple interaction channel that allows the care experience to be adapted flexibly, and allows care programs to be modulated "on the fly" in the event of possible changes in the observed results.
Salvador Herrera presented the advances of the business analytics and machine learning module for predictive analytics, where they are obtaining great results. "Predictive analysis can help predict clinical outcomes or classify patients with low adherence to treatment, and thus allow special focus to be placed on them," he gave as an example. The speaker also highlighted the role of the data manager in the process because, in addition to taking care of the data, they are the ones who personally assist patients to motivate them, encourage them and listen to them, as well as make good use of digital tools: "they humanize technology," he pointed out.
Driven by FARUPEIB (Pharmacists of External Patient Units of the Balearic Islands), Naveta is an open community for healthcare professionals with the aim of promoting and evaluating the impact of the use of care protocols oriented to value-based medicine. It is based on the use of PROMs and PREMs, which are questionnaires established by the scientific community to carry out patient monitoring.
Naveta, through the telemedicine and user experience platform Phemium, developed by Costaisa, offers a direct channel with the patient to follow up, answer questions, educate them about their pathology and treatment, promote healthy habits, etc. Naveta gives patients a voice so that they can be protagonists of the care model, determine their priorities and play an active role in the treatment of their disease.
It offers a simple interaction channel that allows the care experience to be adapted "to the uniqueness of each patient and taking advantage of new technologies to carry out closer and real-time monitoring," as well pointed out Roser Fernández, General Director of La Unió, who was accompanied by Jordi Campo, Director of Health of Costaisa, at the opening of the conference. "The incorporation of PROMs and PREMs into Phemium," said Campo, "enhances the most clinical part of our telemedicine and professional and patient user experience platform."
The conference was held within the framework of the La Unió Collaborating Associates Forum, to which Costaisa belongs, and which aims to be a meeting place for sharing news and experiences in the form of meetings, technical sessions and conferences.
La Unió is the largest and oldest business organization for health and social care in Catalonia. Currently, it is made up of more than 100 institutions with more than 60,000 workers from some 400 health care providers: specialized care, primary care, social health care, mental health, dependency, diagnostic imaging, rehabilitation, clinical analysis laboratories and ambulance transport.
