SESPA implements Docentis to monitor their specialized training

SESPA logoCostaisa has been awarded the implementation of the monitoring platform for specialized Health Training of the Principality of Asturias Health Service (SESPA), which is expected to offer a service to a minimum 1,125 users, of which approximately 750 are residents, 350 tutors, 25 Heads of Study, technical and administrative support staff, teaching collaborators and staff from the Ministry of Health. SESPA manages 7 public hospitals, 6 subsidized hospitals, 78 health centers and employs nearly 13,000 workers.

The specialized training program in Spain is strongly regulated and defines a multitude of monitoring and supervision factors that cause a large number of tasks and the bureaucratization of these processes, to which is added that the SESPA had been using traditional systems for registration and monitoring of all teaching activity.

That is why the SESPA has decided to opt for Docentis, the only market solution that meets the requirements demanded by the Administration to cover the registration, monitoring and evaluation of the teaching, care and research activity of the residents in their health training specialized. The Committee of Experts in charge of evaluating the candidatures and which finally opted for the Costaisa solution has highlighted the very high degree of coverage of the solution presented with regard to the requirements raised in the tender.

Developed by Costaisa, a company with more than 50 years of experience in the field of IT solutions for the health sector, Docentis provides a collaborative and online environment, where managers, tutors and residents can centralize all their daily operations, collect all the documentation that is generated and also evaluate the participants. All this in a continuously updated web platform with the latest technical-legal requirements that the Administration requests.

Docentis accumulates more than seven years of development and is a mature and fully operational solution. It is currently installed in various reference centers such as the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona (co-creator of the solution), the Hospital Universitario de Móstoles, the Consorci Sanitari Integral, the Hospital Universitario Marqués de Valdecilla, Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Barcelona, Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu or the University of Navarra Clinic, supporting the management of more than 1,500 residents and tutors. A figure that will be substantially increased when the residents of the Hospital Clínico Universitario de Santiago, Fundació Althaia and Parc Taulí de Sabadell, centers in full implementation phase, are incorporated.

Regulatory framework

In Spain, the Law 44/2003 on the Regulation of Health Professions regulates our specialist training system and stipulates that residents must carry out the activities provided for in the teaching program in a programmed and supervised manner, and they must appear in the Resident's Book that will be subject to evaluation. Royal Decree 183/2008 develops its deployment, establishing the obligation to carry out formative, annual and final evaluations, and to have a Resident Book where all healthcare, teaching and research activity is recorded.

The documents used must also respect the criteria established according to the Resolution of March 21, 2018 of the General Directorate of Professional Organization, which approves the basic guidelines that must contain the documents accrediting the evaluations of training specialists.
