Ethical conditioning factors for implementing new technologies in healthcare practice

Jornada CSC eConsultaCostaisa attended the technical event of the CSC entitled "Implementation of new technologies in management of the ill" held at Parc Sanitari Pere Virgili, and where the latest developments in eConsultation were presented along with the ethical dilemmas caused by the transition to healthcare models that are more technology-oriented.

Oscar Solans, Functional Director of the Shared Medical Record project in the Department of Health of the Government of Catalonia, explained the progress made in the development of the Patient Personal Health Folder (LMS) and eConsultation, a new asynchronous and two-way communication channel between medical professionals and citizens in Primary Healthcare, which is due to be extended to hospitals of the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS) in 2018.

Begoña Roman, lecturer in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Barcelona and Chair of the Catalan Social Services Ethics Committee, focused on the ethical aspects of the "virtualisation" of healthcare. Confidentiality, the right to privacy, transparency, patient autonomy, training and participation are the key issues to bear in mind regarding managing this change we are immersed in.
