ACES promotes the rollout of the Catalonia Surgical Implants Registry in the private healthcare sector
The Catalan Association of Health Entities (ACES) has invited the Department of Health of the Government of Catalonia and Costaisa Group to present the new Catalonia Surgical Implants Registry (RIQCat), with the aim of informing its member entities about the requirements of this new clinical surveillance tool, which comes into force on August 19 and establishes the mandatory reporting of surgical implants performed in Catalonia, both in public and private centers.
During the session, the initiative was addressed from both the regulatory and strategic perspective of the Department and the technical and operational standpoint required for its implementation. Salvador Cassany, Head of the Pharmaceutical Control and Medical Devices Service at the Department of Health, provided context on the creation of this registry, which is intended to become a tool for monitoring and traceability of surgical implants, enabling a rapid and effective healthcare response in the event of a safety alert.
The decree, published last month, establishes the obligation for centers to submit (at least) monthly the required information, including device identification through UDI-DI and UDI-PI, EMDN classification, ICD-10 procedure coding, as well as the data necessary to ensure clinical traceability.
In this context, Costaisa has incorporated into its DataConnect solution a specific module aimed at automated communication with RIQCat. This module complements existing reporting to the Minimum Basic Data Set (MBDS) registries (Emergency, Hospitalization, Socio-healthcare, Intermediate Care, Day Hospital, PADES, Hospital Mental Health, Specialized Outpatient Care, and RACAT), as well as Waiting List and Referral registries, which it has been reporting for over 15 years to more than 20 centers within SISCAT, the Comprehensive Public Use Healthcare System of Catalonia.
DataConnect enables data submission regardless of the clinical or management software used in each center and allows for structured extraction of required information, validation of mandatory fields, and seamless communication with the healthcare administration.
