How to implement efficient budget control in a hospital that uses SAP

Fonendo y gráficaThe digitalization of budget control processes allows healthcare organizations to have mechanisms to create, execute and monitor all their activity, with full traceability of real and committed charges or items consumed.

With the right budget control solution, hospitals gain a complete and transparent view of their finances and can identify areas of excessive or inefficient spending, enabling them to make informed decisions to optimize the use of available resources. It also helps management teams to set realistic budgets and achievable objectives, ensuring sound financial management in the short and long term.

Additionally, hospitals can closely monitor operating costs, and quickly identify and address any deviations to ensure that they remain within established budget limits.

In SAP, budget control is fully integrated with accounting, materials management and "sales and billing", which in the health sector has very different specificities. The integration of the materials management and budget control components, for example, makes it possible to reproduce and monitor procurement operations from the order request to invoice, and also ensures that all the data needed to manage the budget is always available.

Three large blocks stand out in budget control: master data management, its accounting with the corresponding budget reduction, as well as its subsequent monitoring.

At Sapas and Costaisa we have been collaborating with several hospitals throughout Spain in the implementation of SAP-based solutions and we have a wide portfolio of customers to whom we provide technical support and development services. We also have vertical solutions for the health sector based on SAP such as Sanicost, which solves all the particularities of the sector in healthcare billing, both for private and insurance companies and public agencies as well as internal replenishment.

Developed in SAP BTP and integrated with S/4HANA (both Cloud and On-premise) or SAP R3, Sanicost can be integrated via API with any hospital management system (HIS) and economic and financial management system (ERP) on the market. Likewise, Costaisa and Sapas carried out the first project and product developed in SAP BTP in health in Spain more than two years ago at Fundació Puigvert, a monographic center for urology and renal and reproductive pathologies, an international benchmark.
