Incorporation of PROMs in the 2024 World's Best Hospitals Ranking

Phemium PRM PROMThis year, Newsweek has partnered with Statista to rank the world's best hospitals in 2024. The list includes data from 2,400 hospitals in 30 countries, and its score is based on a survey of over 85,000 medical experts and public data from post-hospitalization patient surveys about their overall satisfaction. But what role do Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) play in this ranking?

What are PROMs?
PROMs are standardized questionnaires that patients complete to assess their experience and outcomes in the healthcare system. These measures provide valuable information about the quality of care and patient satisfaction. But how do they really affect the hospital ranking?

The role of PROMs in the ranking
It is interesting to note that hospitals using PROMs occupy a prominent position in the ranking. This fact not only demonstrates their commitment to transparency and continuous improvement, but they can also identify opportunities for improvement and optimize patient care. PROM data influences the overall hospital score, considering aspects such as patient satisfaction, hygiene, and the patient-to-physician ratio.
