The Provincial Council of Álava entrusts to Costaisa the modernization of its Cobol applications in DB2
Costaisa has been awarded the contract for the provision of the "conversion of Cobol/DB2 applications to a Java environment and relational database" service for the Treasury Department of the Álava Provincial Council, through the Álava Computing Center. In this first phase of the project, the conversion of two of its applications is contemplated, which represent approximately 10% of its total environment, and the conversion of the rest of the applications is planned in the next three or four years.
This project is the first to be carried out in Spain with the Heirloom PaaS solution or platform as a service of which we are partners, which allows the migration of Cobol applications to Java and in the cloud, automatically compiling and transforming mainframe applications.
With this project, the Álava Provincial Council has started the modernization process that will lead it to eliminate its dependence on cobol and mainframe suppliers, with a drastic reduction in its associated costs.
The Provincial Council is the governing body of the historical territory and province of Álava of the autonomous community of the Basque Country in Spain, with important tax, urban planning and social affairs powers for the 51 municipalities it serves.
