Sustainability and the promotion of SLMs at the 10th anniversary of the AI & Big Data Congress
Costaisa Group was present at the traditional AI & Big Data Congress in Barcelona, where experts and international leaders reflected on the challenges and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence, especially in the area of sustainability and the efficiency of Large Language Models (LLMs) compared to Small Language Models (SLMs).
The congress celebrated a decade of existence with thirty national and international speakers to analyze the past, present and future of artificial intelligence, from all its dimensions.
The debate on the energy consumption of different AI models has been one of the central points of the congress. While we recognize the enormous potential of these technologies, the high cost of infrastructure and computing power is questioned, and whether its use is justified to obtain results that do not add value.
At Costaisa Group we are intensifying our efforts in the research and development of SLMs as they allow a high degree of customization of the dimensions of knowledge to be exploited, and require less data and processing power to train and run, making them faster and more cost-effective.
SLMs also pose lower privacy risks and, due to their smaller size, are easier to implement and maintain, offering comparable performance in many tasks with lower resource consumption, significantly reducing their carbon footprint.
