Have you already incorporated the use of PROMs and PREMs in the monitoring of your patients?

Phemium PRM PROM PREMCostaisa has organized a technical session to present the success story of Naveta, a community of professionals committed to promoting and evaluating the impact of the use of care protocols oriented towards value-based medicine. It is an initiative of FARUPEIB (Balearic Islands Hospital Pharmacy Association) and in a few months it has achieved that more than 33 centers currently monitor more than 2,500 patients.

Dr. Gabriel Mercadal, President of this association and Assistant to the Pharmacy Service of the Mateu Orfila Hospital in Menorca, has been responsible for presenting this novel initiative based on a healthcare that includes the perspective of the patient, to implement a more participatory medicine in which joint decisions are made with the patient.

The incorporation into our daily clinical practice of questionnaires that deliver results and experience reported directly by the patient, the so-called PROMs (to measure disease activity, quality of life, productivity, side effects or adherence, among others) and PREMs (to assess the patient experience and satisfaction in their care process), allow us to take a more humanistic approach and focused on the patient real needs.

This approach is related to greater patient satisfaction, better health outcomes, and in the context of the "data economy", greater efficiency for the system and for the patients themselves.

Likewise, Naveta plans to add educational content, digital therapeutics, initiatives such as contact with an expert patient and other interactions that allow for a continuous clinical-care approach in the future. In the opinion of Dr. Mercadal, "the importance of using PROMs and PREMs questionnaires has been discussed for years, but today it is a reality and we have been able to give a voice to the patient and contribute in a tangible way to a medicine based on value that is allowing us to improve the health outcomes of our patients, as well as their satisfaction with the assistance we provide".

Thanks to advances in digital health, the incorporation of such questionnaires has been accelerated. Phemium, the Patient Relationship Management platform developed by Costaisa, incorporates them as a component of patient interaction that can also be used as an isolated module, integrated with any Health Information System (HIS) that meets interoperability standards.
